Reception Class
Welcome to Reception Class, the start of your child’s learning journey at St. Chad’s Catholic Primary School, within the St Teresa of Calcutta Academy Trust.
Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential, therefore, we will work in partnership with parents to enable every child to be the best they can be.
We aim to provide children with a creative ‘Building the Kingdom’ curriculum, which encourages new learning opportunities, develops self-confidence and independence and lays the foundations for their future.
Our Reception indoor and outdoor learning environments are stimulating, to which everyone is welcome ! We aim to provide children with a safe and secure setting which allows them to be excited about learning and to grow in confidence and faith.
In Reception, we cover all seven areas of learning and development, as outlined in the Early Years Framework.
The Prime areas are:
- Communication and Language
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
The Specific areas are:
- Literacy
- Maths
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
The children will explore the Early Years curriculum through a play-based approach including both adult-led and child-initiated learning. There is a strong emphasis on developing communication and language and personal, social and emotional development.
Our Catholic faith is at the heart of everything we do in Reception Class. Your child will learn that Jesus loves us all and that we are special. We endeavour to treat everyone with love and respect, just as Jesus did. At St Chad’s ‘We grow in the light of Christ, to share His love and reflect the Gospel Values.’
